I want to open an online boutique for my own designs, what camera/equipment should I use to take photos?
Hi there, I know almost nothing about cameras, especially SLRs. But I really want to open an eboutique as an outlet for my designs. I really want to know:
1) How people get such clear photos of merchandise for their stock pictures, etc.
2) What equipment or lightning conditions would I need other than the camera?
3) Which camera(s) would you recommend that is low-priced and works great for my needs?
Thank you! Please no spam, ads, or rude answers! Be respectful!
You have a lot of rules for your answerers, don’t you?
The equipment you would need:
A bridge camera (which is a high end Point&Shoot) would do, you don’t need an SLR for starters.
Having said that, the better your gear, the easier your job.
However, since you are only just starting, I am trying to come up with suggestions that are cheaper, you can always go upwards from here.
You need to set up a studio space with at least a boring white wall and floor, but a large roll of white paper would be better.
You need lights – the best would be having several flash units, at least bounced or with soft boxes etc. The cheap option is having a number of “hot” lights (i.e. on continuously). Make sure they have daylight bulbs (aka full spectrum). Light up the background, too.
Watch out for harsh shadows.
The most important thing is that YOU need to learn a LOT about photography. No matter what your gear, you need to really know how to USE it.
Countless books have been written on that subject – read a few of them.
Good luck.
