Camcorder microphone help?

I have a video camera with external mic input, but no real point mount camcorder I have two questions: 1) There are some situations in which the entire group an independent position for the microphone is not very practical, what other options I have to mount the microphone, is there anything I can get that has a little microphone and just sort of generic bracket, so it can connect to … perhaps part of the camera tripod? all microphone clips I've looked seems to go with a shoe 2) I do not know what kind of microphone for a shotgun / Stereo / radio / rifle etc.I just want a good workhorse to replace the microphone on the camcorder? I have about £ 50 / 60 to spend on that.

I use a camera support Bower angle with two accessory shoes on it. Holders are available directly from the camera accessory shoe with a single, too.
