Camera Mouse Linux

Why has my mouse’s driver stopped working and how the hell do I get Vista to reinstall it?
It’s a Microsoft standard wireless optical mouse, which randomly stopped working earlier today after about two months of use with no problems. It’s still working fine on my friend’s XP PC.
When I reboot or reinsert the USB cable it attempts to install the driver but fails and asks for the setup CD, which as far as I can remember the mouse wasn’t supplied with.
The device manager says that the driver is up to date and working properly (?), and there is no option on the microsoft website to download the driver, although I doubt this would help. The support section on drivers is senseless and irrelevant.
Any ideas? This has also been happening with my digital camera and printer so if this is a more general problem with Vista I’d love to know!
IThis is only a twenty quid Microsoft mouse, but why the hell should I have to replace it if it’s not even broken?
Might just switch to Linux. I’m sick of this shit.
When it asks for the disc, select the second option (sub titled advanced).
Now select search, and enter C: as the directory.
Finally, Wait. it’ll get it for you, eventually.
JBV^_^
Note: This works for any usb device that doesn’t need a driver, including some non-vista compatible ones.
