Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 problem?

I had to get a new mouse, so I bought a Microsoft 'Comfort Optical 3000' mouse. It works well with everything but games. For example, with The Sims 2 – I lost control of the camera with her. Moving back and forth across the screen, scrolling edge, and zoom in and out are all well. But using the scroll button to change the viewing angle does not work, or with the scroll wheel to rotate the camera. Another example, Caesar 4, which can zoom with the scroll wheel, but I can not zoom in and using the button to scroll the screen does not work at all. The software that comes with allows you to change button functions of the wheel, but refer all options for things like cutting and pasting, etc., just regular classroom windows things. The website of the mouse was useless (it was only the MS site to buy things). Anyone know a solution? Thanks for any help.

software you have to kill the mouse to go to the default setting for their games. it says "game options", but only makes their games really.
