Was he caught speeding? UK only please?
My boyfriend was on his way home at night the other evening. Unfortunately, he was speeding. 110 in a 70 zone. Bad I know. No excuse, but he wanted to get home and the road was closed, so he had to make a 12 mile round trip to get home. He overtook a ‘normal’ car, and as he pulled in, there was a bright flash from the car. Not headlights, but like a camera flash. There were no speed cameras, and the car did not reveal itself as a police car. (Would have thought if it was an unmarked car, this would have been enough to pull him over)
Also, is it true that unmarked cars only take video? The evidence I found so far is car units don’t even need flashes, and usually pull the person over, though they don’t have to.
Was this a kind of speed trap? I though police cars had to follow you for a bit? He slowed down immediately…. but he was still going too fast at the time.
I guess we’ll find out in 14 days. A ban will mean he will lose his job.
As far as I’m aware a Police officer would need to pull you over in order to issue the relevant paperwork to send you to Court to face a penalty for speeding in the circumstances you have described. Without doing this they will only know the car was speeding, not who was driving it.
I personally don’t work with the relevant equipment to be able to issue fines for speeding so an officer who does will be able to clarify further.
I’m sure I don’t need to lecture you but I will say that driving this fast is irresponsible and dangerous. Most people who drive at these speeds are not properly trained to do so. This is why the usual course taken by the Courts for speeding over 100 mph is a ban.
If your boyfriend gets away with this then he’ll hopefully see it as a warning to slow down before he kills himself or someone else.
