Hannity is saying we now have “nationalized healthcare.” Should anyone have the freedom to “Lie” on television?

Is lying to people, and misleading your viewers really the same thing as “Freedom of Speech?”

I have struggled with this. That is, what, exactly, could be done so that outright lies can’t just be spewed out there, with no correction at any time. (Of course, Fox “News” would have to close down completely were there any “truth requirement” — oh, the horror!)

It’s like “truth in advertising” law. IF you call yourself a “News” station or show, you have to explicitly correct every false statement you make. Enforcement is the bear.

In Hannity’s case, since Fox “News” likes to distinguish their news from commentary shows, their actual newscasts should include corrections of commentators’ lies. No, then all the wing-nuts would ONLY watch the lying shows, and stop watching the newscasts.

I really don’t know what the answer is.

Besides, one of the biggest enemy of truth is people’s lack of memory. (Recent example: Republican Congresspersons saything they WANTED health care reform, when a year earlier they bragged that they would prevent ANY healthcare reform from passing. The fact that Fox “News” viewers have no long-term memories means they never notice these things.)

Uh, for the people who are agreeing with Hannity — it is NOT the case that the government now owns all hospitals and other health care providing companies. Nor are all health care providers employees of the government. Therefore, we do NOT have nationalized healthcare.

Get your mommies to look up “nationalize” in the dictionary.
